Mastering Management™: Coaching

A manager's coaching skills often determine the success or failure of his or her relationship with employees. Yet many managers, both new and experienced, lack basic coaching techniques and the confidence to provide effective feedback.

Mastering Management: Coaching is an interactive online module and toolkit that helps managers understand the essentials of coaching for improvement. Mastering Management: Coaching provides a proven, effective process for entering and sustaining coaching relationships with direct reports by focusing on the "past, present, and future" of coaching.

First, managers survey the past landscape, identify organizational and personal opportunities for coaching, and decide if coaching is an effective return on investment for that situation. Next, they interact with direct reports in the present to build awareness of the performance issue and brainstorm solutions.
